It’s that time of the year everyone! Welcome to the first annual Gaming Gamma Game of the Year Awards! Here we pit the best of the best games we reviewed this year against each other for the title of Game of the Year!  We only have a few simple rules on how a game can be nominated for our sites GOTY award:

• The game must have been reviewed on our site.
• The game must have come out this year.

Well that’s really it! Since it’s our first Game of the Year Awards we have a bit of growing pains to work with but we hope to do this every year! So let’s start out with the individual categories!

PlayStation 4 GOTY Nominations:

Megadimension Neptunia VII

Valkyria Chronicles Remastered

Fairy Fencer Advent Dark Force

And the Winner is:

While it may seem a bit unorthodox to give this award to a remastered game, I myself have never played Valkyria Chronicles until I reviewed it. The game excels in both story and gameplay, and was easily one of the first games this year that had me invested in a game from start to the very end. We award Valkyria Chronicles Remastered, again, with one of our highest honors of PlayStation 4 GOTY.

Runner Up: Fairy Fencer Advent Dark Force

PlayStation Vita GOTY Nominations:

Superdimension Neptune vs SEGA Hard Girls

Digimon Cyber Sleuth

Grand Kingdom

The Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel II

And the winner for PlayStation Vita GOTY is:

Superdimension Neptune vs. SEGA Hard Girls is one of the many spin off’s from the Hyperdimension Neptunia series, and it easily can compete for the title of one of the best games in the series. The writing for this game is top notch, with plenty of jokes and a good time for all. The gameplay also takes a good spin on the established Neptunia combat and with a bit of tweaking it could easily have become better than the main series. For long time fans of the Neptunia series, or players who just want to get into it, this game is easily one to recommend and deserves the title for PS Vita GOTY.

Runner Up: Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel II

Nintendo 3DS GOTY Nominations:

Kirby Planet Robobot 

Bravely Second

Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse

7th Dragon III Code VFD  

And the winner for 3DS Game of the Year is:

There were many great games on the 3DS this year, but Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse takes the cake for being the best of the best on the 3DS this year. The game builds off the previous Shin Megami Tensei game flawlessly to make a near perfect experience, and is a must play for any JRPG fans.

Runner Up: 7th Dragon III Code VFD

PC GOTY Nominations: 

Zero Time Dilemma 

Danganronpa 2

VA-11 HALL-A

Yomawari Night Alone

And the winner for our PC Game of the Year Award is:

VA-HALL-A is easily one of the best PC games to comes out this year. Normally games with Utopian-Dystopian settings don’t work for me, but this one hit it just right in just about every way. In a world where that would be considered abnormal or unnatural in the real world just seem like any other day in theirs is really solid writing. Combine that with a sick soundtrack, good pixel art and some funny moments, and you have a must-have on your hands.

Runner Up: Zero Time Dilemma 

Now before we go into naming our over all Game of the Year Award, we would first like to award our first Publisher of the Year Award as well. The nominees are as follows:

And the winner for our first ever Publisher of the Year Award is:

Idea Factory International has delivered a great offering of good games to many JRPG fans this year with games such as Fairy Fencer Advent Dark Force, and has delivered consistently good PC ports throughout the year. We proudly award Idea Factory International our first Publisher of the Year Award, and look forward to what offerings they have to bring in 2017.

And our first Game of the Year Award is:

If I were to describe SMTIV: Apocalypse into one word, it would be simply, amazing. The idea of SMT Apocalypse was that it would be one of the 3DS’s best RPGs. Little did they know they created one of the best RPGs to come out this year. Atlus proves yet again that their games alone make the Nintendo 3DS worth owning.

Runner Up: VA-11 HALL-A
