My Hype List for Holiday Season 2015

You know, Gammald is right. There are a ton of games to be excited about this holiday. Metal Gear Solid V and Danganronpa: Another Episode just came out, Fallout 4 this November, Just Cause 3 and Hitman are this December, with Persona 5 thrown into the mix too? There are a ton of huge games this holiday, and a lot of smaller ones too.  As such, here is my list for my top 5 games this holiday season.

5.Corpse Party: Blood Drive (Vita)
Truth be told, I don’t like being spooked. I don’t like ghosts. I just don’t like being scared and defenseless at all where the only option is to run. Not run and hide. Just run. That said, I don’t what it is, but I can’t help but love Corpse Party. I’ve played Outlast and I’ve watched a friend go through Alien: Isolation. The difference between this game and those games are that after a while, Outlast and Alien: Isolation get tense, not scary. The terrifying sensation of Corpse Party and the shock value of it’s sequel Corpse Party: Book of Shadows stays throughout and that’s why I’m excited to see the end of this terrifying trilogy.

4.Code: Realize ~Guardian of Rebirth~ (Vita)

Normally I don’t play otome games (think of a reverse harem) as romancing a bunch of guys isn’t my cup of tea and the characters themselves aren’t very interesting. Although the prospect of this one grabbed me immediately. It’s a story about a girl that can’t physically touch anyone without some form of barrier, like gloves or maybe even plastic. Other than that, she’s playing with death. Why? Somehow, someway, her skin is poisonous to the touch so one would be hurting themselves (possibly dying) for just wanting to do something like holding her hand or even accidentally bumping into her. I just want to see how this all plays out as having a love interest with some crazy condition like that must be painful.

3.Trails in the Sky: Second Chapter (PSP/PC)
You know, back when this was announced that it would be localized soon, a lot of people were jumping for joy and I wondered why. It turns out the previous entry to this game was localized years ago with this one sorta stuck in Development Hell (or localization Hell in this case). In the end though, with the way people were reacting towards this announcement I wanted to see what was going on and bought the PSP version (it didn’t exist on PC at the time). Truth be told, I was surprised I didn’t hear about this franchise sooner. The first game is fantastic. It’s pretty much a JRPG meshed with SRPG battle mechanics which is awesome since I love SRPGs a lot. The fact that the first game ended on a cliffhanger is leaving me anxious for this title.

2. Persona 5 (PS3/PS4)
I know, I know. I’m crazy for not making this number one. Although, I am just as hyped as you are and there is no changing that. I’ve come into the Persona franchise extremely blind when I originally bought my Vita. I just needed a JRPG and saw that Persona 4 Golden was critically acclaimed so I said, “well this has to be good”, and I will say, it was pretty good. Almost as if the universe deemed it to be so, a month or so after I bought Persona 4 Golden all of the Persona games went on sale and so I bought all of them and have been hooked on the franchise since. I’m just waiting for a release date so I can get a PS4 at this point.

1.VA-11 HALL-A (Vita/PC/iOS)
I know, I know, I’m crazy to make a game you’ve never heard of to be higher than Persona 5; let alone number 1. Believe me though, I have my reasons. To make a long story short here, this takes place in a post-dystopian world and everyone’s emotions are suppressed by nano-machines. As such, people come to your bar, Valhalla to just get drunk and talk about themselves. So the game isn’t really about the how messed up the world is outside, but more about the people that live in it. That’s really one of the main reasons why I want this game so bad. I played the demo, and it was great with a just as well done OST (some parts actually sound like it came out of a SMT game haha). The whole thing has this sort of charm to it that I just love. It’s certainly brimming with style.

Well, there it is. I’m sure most of these titles are titles most of you have never heard of. I really suggest you guys check them out if you’re interested in them. VA-11 HALL-A has a free demo on their website for instance. Trust me, you guys won’t be disappointed in these games if you look at them. Especially with Trails, I can’t recommend it enough.
