XSEED Announces the Release Date for Trails in the Sky the 3rd

In a press release, XSEED has announced that Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky 3rd Chapter will hit Steam, GOG.com, and the Humble Bundle on May 3rd, at a price point of  $29.99, €29.99, and £24.99. During it’s first week at launch however, it will be available for 10% off.

Here’s a quick rundown on the title from XSEED.

Half a year after the events of Trails in the Sky Second Chapter, Liberl has settled into peace once again—but even during peaceful times, there are many among the distinguished and fortunate burning with greed thanks to the influence of ancient artifacts. Most of the population remains unaware of their abuses of power, but to the most enigmatic order of the beloved Septian Church, the Gralsritter, snuffing out these would-be villains and claiming artifacts in their name is as everyday as professing one’s faith in the Goddess.

On the eve of another successfully completed mission, high-ranking member Father Kevin Graham is immediately assigned to retrieve one more artifact that rests beneath Grancel Cathedral. What’s more, even though this is a task he could easily complete on his own, he must reluctantly do so in partnership with his newest recruit, rookie Gralsritter and childhood friend Sister Ries Argent. Thus begins the start of a routine mission that becomes anything but, delving into a new and mysterious realm that follows an unnaturally strict set of rules: Phantasma. Therein, the history of the Septian Church and the pasts of the many familiar faces who took up arms for the sake of Liberl’s future will be laid bare – and some may have been better off staying forever sealed behind closed doors.

Widely considered the most challenging title in the series, players are encouraged to iterate upon the combat style they’ve come to know in the 3rd’s predecessors by either enjoying its in-depth story on Easy or crying with frustration on its unforgiving Nightmare difficulty. The brilliant music that the Trails in the Sky series is known for also returns, adding dozens of memorable new tracks as players work their way through the mysterious new realm of Phantasma.

Danganronpa 1-2 Reload is a bundle of the original Danganronpa and Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. For those not in the know, Danganronpa (as well as its sequel) are about students from Hope’s Peak Academy. Students that go to this school are destined for success and are considered the very best in their field, whether it be the “Ultimate Programmer,” the “Ultimate Writer,” “Cook,” you name it. The conflict in these games, though, is that they’ve been kidnapped and are doomed to a Battle Royale lifestyle. They can choose to live in peace and harmony with their classmates for the rest of their lives, or alternatively: kill someone and get away with it. Unfortunately, through circumstances, one classmate kills another and you must find out who and why. Failing to do so will lead to each person dying, save for the murderer. Simultaneously, if you find out who murdered who, they will die. It should also be pointed out that Danganronpa 2 is actually a sequel to the first Danganronpa, so when playing this pack of the two games, be sure to play the first Danganronpa first.

The Caligula Effect Comes to the West May 2nd

This afternoon Atlus USA has announced that The Caligula Effect (Formerly called Caligula in Japan) Will be making it’s way to the Americas and Europe on May 2nd.

A digital prison filled with brainwashed high-school students, evil musicians, and an all-powerful virtual idol awaits, because The Caligula Effect is coming to the Americas and Europe on May 2! Originally known as Caligula in Japan, ATLUS and FURYU Corporation have partnered to localize/release JRPG The Caligula Effect as a PlayStation®Vita digital download title.
Players will follow the exploits of the Go-Home Club, a tight-knit group of Kishimai High School students who’ve discovered that their lives are nothing more than a virtual charade. They’ve come to realize that the world their living in is actually Mobius, a virtual reality construct created and ruled by an omnipotent virtual idol known as μ (pronounced myoo). This ragtag group of students must encounter crazed students known as Digiheads, battle malevolent musicians, confront the almighty μ, and face their deepest inner-traumas before tasting the sweet nectar of freedom.

The game will also be featuring a large variety of gameplay as well:
The Caligula Effect features:
  • A human story set in a virtual world – Experience a dark story as the Go-Home Club does whatever it takes to escape the digital prison known as Mobius. The crew must defeat a group of evil music producers (known as the Ostinato Musicians) who have been working with μ, and come face-to-face with their own black secrets/desires. Written by Persona series veteran Tadashi Satomi (Persona, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment), players will fight towards freedom as they examine the ugly psychological issues that plague the various characters in the game.
  • Multiple relationships to nurture – There are 500+ NPCs to recruit into the party to be used in combat. Each has a preassigned class (such as offense, support, etc…) and have a unique background story that’ll slowly be uncovered by completing various quests. Oh, but there’s only 4 characters in a party, so choose your teammates wisely!
  • A strategic battle system – The game features a unique battle system called “Imaginary Chain” that makes encounters an exercise in planning. Once enemies are encountered, players will seamlessly transition into battles where they can choose from 100+ skills to unleash on their enemies. While choosing skills, players can adjust timing and see a simulated preview of their attack before committing to it. Maximize damage by creating deadly attack chains between party members and don’t let enemies catch their breath!
  • Music by celebrated producers – It’s only fitting that a game about fighting musicians features original songs by celebrated Japanese producers such as OSTER project, 40mP, 164, cosMo@Bousou-P, and more!

It seems like we have another promising JRPG to look forward to this year! You can check out some of the first english screen shots here as well:

The Caligula Effect will be available for download on May 2nd! Be sure to stick around for all of our future coverage on this game!
